My name is Karyn Casey and I was born and raised in Bakersfield, California. I graduated from Loma Linda University in 1993 and earned a bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene. I married my husband Sean Casey September, 1993. We moved to Michigan in 2004 to own Fitness 19 health clubs which we parted ways in 2014. Since then I earned my Michigan Dental Hygiene license and have been working at Summit Family Dental as a Registered Dental Hygienist. I also started a side business called Color Street nails strips and earned a position of Independent Senior Stylist and Team Leader. I’ve met so many great people over the years. Such a fun job, caring and sharing nails to different people. In 2020 I earned a trip to Punta Cana which will take place in 2022, depending on when my new grand baby will be here.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My husband and I have been married for 28 years and we have 4 beautiful kids. Our oldest just got married in May and is expecting his first baby in April 2022. Chaz will be graduating with his Masters in February 2022 and will pursue his career as a Physicians Assistant. Carlee will graduate Oakland University in April 2022 with her Bachelors degree in Early Education and pursue her dream to be a Kindergarten teacher. She has been engaged for a year and still undecided of the date for the wedding. Connor is living the dream. He worked hard this summer in sales and is still trying to figure out what his future will hold. He’s very good with his hands so possibly some trade that he enjoys. And our only Michigan baby Cambree is a freshman at Dakota High School and having a great time cheering for football games. She’s been a blessing keeping me busy and now with a grandbaby coming we won’t feel like empty nesters for awhile.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I am currently working at Summit Family Dental as a dental hygienist. It’s so rewarding caring for people and helping people feel good about their smile. I love educating patients about their dental health and how important it is to take care of your self.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
We love getting take out from Off the Hook on Dixie Highway. My husband being on a keto diet loves their wings. As a family our go to place is Texas Roadhouse. It has everything that everyone loves esp for Cambree our picky eater.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
When I moved to Michigan in 2004 I just worked the back end at Fitness 19. In 2014 I started working for Summit Family Dental and have been there ever since.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
Oh gosh. I see so many interesting people on a daily basis on my hygiene schedule. This makes my job very interesting and fun. I can’t pin point one person.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
Anywhere that is warm with a blue ocean and palm trees. And that has room service.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
Greys Anatomy, This Is Us, A Million Little Things, The Good Doctor, New Amsterdam, Station 19. But I hardly watch TV. Lol. No cable. Just Hulu

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Live life at the fullest. Set goals and achieve them

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
To travel with my family more.

Q: What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?
The 80’s hands down. I’m a valley girl at heart.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
It’s hard to answer this since I didn’t grow up here. But I love the quaint town of Armada and going to the Armada fair. It brings back memories of our fair back at home growing up.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
I’d love to meet Kelly Ripa. I’ve been obsessed with her since she was on General Hospital. She seems so fun and spunky and so real. Plus she’s married to Mark Consuelos. Who doesn’t want to know about him. LOL

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
The people. I’ve met some great families here. Having kids involved with so many things throughout the years, it kept me very busy and very involved with them. I loved every minute of it.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Probably still working. Hopefully I can cut back clinically at work and do more management with my team leader position. Hygiene is hard on the ole back and fingers and I’m not getting any younger.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
In California I raised pigs and dairy heifers and even received Reserve Grand Champion Hampshire pig.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
I haven’t traveled much but I’d say California. I love the beach weather and miss my stomping grounds which was Pismo Beach growing up

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
I love the warm summer months on the boat. Christmas is my favorite holiday because family is all together and the prep work for the day is done. Not sure single day of calendar because I have 4 when kids were born.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
A day when all kids are together with grandparents from California and cousins and siblings etc.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My family. It’s hard watching my kids grow up and be on their own but so rewarding knowing we did such a great job raising them. And listening to my husband talk with them about life and consequences is great. He really should write a book. Lol

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
Pumpkin and sugar cookie candles

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Family, Faith and Love
